Driving America's Future Lauds Blue Dog Coalition's Endorsement of Bipartisan Hill-Terry Fuel Economy Bill
August 01, 2007
WASHINGTON Driving America's Future Chairman Rodney E. Slater today made the following statement lauding the Congressional Blue Dog Coalition's official support for bipartisan Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) legislation introduced by Representatives Baron Hill (D-IN) and Lee Terry (R-NE), HR 2927. The coalition voted July 31 to make HR 2927, cosponsored by more than 140 members, its official policy.
"The Blue Dog Coalition has built a reputation for supporting fair and responsible policy and their endorsement of HR 2927 is a clear indicator it is the best and balanced solution to the CAFE debate. It is a common sense alternative for those who care about our environment and the strength of our economy. The coalition's leadership in backing the Hill-Terry bill will only grow the support it has received in a few short weeks, earning more than 140 cosponsors on both sides of the aisle."
Driving America's Future (www.drivingamericasfuture.org) is a coalition of industry and consumers promoting the future of alternative fuels to reduce gasoline consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. The coalition is committed to educating others about this important policy issue based on its founding principle that innovation and technology is the right path to a clean energy future, not shortsighted fuel economy regulations that will only hurt our largest domestic industry.
Rodney E. Slater served as the U.S. Secretary of Transportation under President Bill Clinton. Before serving as secretary, Slater held the distinguished role of becoming the first African American Administrator of the Federal Highway Administration. Due to Slater's transportation dedication, he is now speaking out about CAFE standards on behalf of Driving America's Future.
